Asahi Kiln was established about 400 years ago at the foot of Asahi mountain in the Uji region. It is part of today's Nara prefecture and is well known as an excellent tea farming area. Most of the superb Matcha and Green Tea are produced there. The clay in the area is perfect for tea bowls, and the kiln grew with the way of tea culture. It went through a lot of difficulties, but even today, they are producing Asahi Yaki (Asahi ware). Because of the character of the clay, it enjoys the natural gradation and stunning spots like stars in the day sky, if there were such things.
Great artisans created this tea bowl at the Asahi kiln. The balance of strength and softness of this bowl is unusual and exceptional. While the tea event in the tea room has become seldom, it is a joy to find great tea bowls that we can use more casually.
Imagine holding this bowl filled with Latte in your hands. Time passing becomes slow and delicious.
