Around the Taisho Era (1912-1926) there was a highly skilled group of artisans called Ningyo-shi (dollmakers) that crafted dolls and toys. This set of small tableware is a fine example showcasing the abilities of these craftsmen around this time. The set includes miniature chopsticks, lacquer bowls, porcelain tea cups, soy sauce platters, rice bowls, and a metal tea pot with an unusually composed character. How small they are? The height of the tea pot is
1 ½”, 3cm and its diameter is 2”, 5cm.
This set was cherished for Omamagoto, a type of make believe play. It would be a wonderful present to surprise your grandchild with.
